New Paltz--who knew?

Had a super "history experience" over the weekend. New Paltz has a wonderful historic district that dates back to its founding by 12 Huguenot families over 300 years ago. This is a National Historic Landmark (a rare designation, unlike the National Register of Historic Places). Amazingly enough, just about all of the founding families still have active family associations that help keep the history alive. We didn't have time for the house tour, but there is a good museum quality exhibit in the visitor center, and the district itself is just great to walk through.

New Paltz is only about 1 1/2 hrs away, but probably a bit too far for our group to go for.

Let me just tack on a reminder about the John Jay Homestead outing set for this Sunday. Check the meetup group page for details.

Cheers!

Nate
